Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate. Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May. And summer's lease hath all too short a date. The Darling Buds (1986-1993) were part of the brief Blonde period of UK indie music which peaked in 1988. A Blonde band consisted of a blonde female singer backed by "a load of blokes wearing black and trying to look moody". Silly perhaps, but blonde bands created some of the most memorable music of the late eighties and early nineties. Well, you'd remember them if you heard them at all. Which you probably didn't if you only listened to mainstream commercial radio. Links |
